mhughes2 -> Verifying distro points are functioning properly (6/3/2008 11:09:59 AM)

Is there a log file that I can check to make sure that my distribution points are actually distributing to PCs that are within their boundries?

Also, and I may be totally off on this but, if a PC is located within the boundry for a distro point shouldn't it be assigned that site code?
E.G. primary site code is ITD, distro points are ITD, COR and MAD. If a PC is within the boundry (that I created via Active Directory) for COR, should that particular PC be assigned a site code of COR? Or do I have to manually assign it?

Odd, according to Netflow, the secondary servers are pushing to their respective sites, but I'm not seeing any indicators that a specific collection that I targeted has received the advertisement (despite the fact that the files are starting to appear in the cache on the target machines). What gives?

Are you talking about distribution points or secondary sites? One site (with just ONE 3-letter site code) can have a bunch of DPs. Distribution point is just a share on the server, and it doesn't actually have it's own sitecode, it is assigned to one of existing sites. The best way to check the DP assignment for the client is to investigate client's log-files - "Location Services" and "Data Transfer Service". When the client is receiving new policy and is assigned with some package, it asks it's management point for the available places to download from. The management point returns all the unprotected DP's for the client, but in case it's in the protected point's boundary - the client would get just one protected point path to download from. So check what is returned in the logs. Hope it helps.

I think the biggestest issue at the moment is why aren't a bunch of these machines reporting in any kind of status? They're receiving advertisements and running them; but if I look at the reports for them, they're stuck on "No Status"
