mrigney633 -> XP SP3, SMS says "platform not supported" (6/18/2008 8:40:16 PM)

I successfully deployed XP SP3 via ITMUv3 to a small test group. Now SMS can't apply updates to these boxes. Get error 10009 "Advertisement was rejected because the client's platfrom is not supported". The environment is SMS 2003 SP2 ITMUv3.

The program requirements do not have "x86 Windows Professional XP Service Pack 3" as an option to enable. Obviously I need some sort of update. Is this part of SMS2003 SP3 or do I get somewhere else?

Try this.

That does look good, however one major thing. You must have SMS2003 SP3 installed before doing this.
I am having the same issue and now will have to think about upgrading to SMS2003 SP3, What are the main things to consider or are there any known issues with SMS2003 SP3?

(edited)

I just called MS (800-936-4900) and it's not publicly available for download yet, but they will send you a download link.

Well, my advice would be to follow this checklist and get SP3 installed on your server and clients
http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/socal/archive/2007/05/12/sms-2003-sp3-upgrade-checklist.aspx

And also get this hotfix pushed out too so Add Remove Programs queries go faster and you reduce duplicated data

Better than 939872; 941214 because it comes with a client you can push instead of the SP3 client and has lots of fixes.

That's why he's our MVP!

mrigney633 -> RE: XP SP3, SMS says "platform not supported" (6/19/2008 4:34:54 PM)

Does the rollup 941214 include or eliminate the need for 953027?

Rickym61 -> RE: XP SP3, SMS says "platform not supported" (6/21/2008 7:27:36 AM)

KB941214 is simply to resolve some issues from the SP3 upgrade, ie. A new client.msi, add/remove programs performance issues for starters.
KB953027 is to add the XP SP3 platform to the enviroments tab for the program, so if you wanted to just deploy to XP SP3 machines, you can do, also adds other platforms Vista SP1 etc.

I would recommend installing both hotfixes.

Hope this helps.

mrigney633 -> RE: XP SP3, SMS says "platform not supported" (6/23/2008 12:14:54 PM)

So it sounds like SMS SP3 would resolve my problem with XP SP3. It seems like it is also advisable to apply both of the hotfixes.

Thanks

Rickym61 -> RE: XP SP3, SMS says "platform not supported" (6/24/2008 4:56:49 PM)

Also SMS 2003 SP2 support ends very soon 8th July http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/?p1=2890 So I would recommend upgrading to SP3.

I advise installing both hotfixes too.

This is a good guide to doing the upgrade too http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/cstauffer/archive/2007/05/15/sms-2003-sp3-install-directions.aspx

MRaybone -> RE: XP SP3, SMS says "platform not supported" (7/15/2008 10:58:01 AM)

I don't understand why we have to contact MS to get these fixes.

mrigney633 -> RE: XP SP3, SMS says "platform not supported" (7/19/2008 6:05:23 PM)

Does anyone have a download link for KB953027 and KB941214? I haven't heard back from MS and would like to install them soon.

I agree, that these are "REQUIRED" updates and therefore why should we have to request them, then again, who knows MS thinking behind this decision.

Do you have access to Premier Support? or an MS TAM (Technical Account Manager), they can speed things up for you.

I just tried to request KB941214 and before I could submit and go and check the email I spcified, the download link had been sent. Used the download and request hotfix link on the KB itself http://support.microsoft.com/hotfix/KBHotfix.aspx?kbnum=941214&kbln=en-us

If you want the link, pm me, ill forward you the email MS sent me for KB941214, for KB953027 I would re-request it just in case.

mrigney633 -> RE: XP SP3, SMS says "platform not supported" (7/22/2008 1:37:44 PM)

I did finally get links from MS and was able to download the patches. I gues this is their way of saying upgrade to System Center.

Thanks to all for the helpful advice!

jenglish -> RE: XP SP3, SMS says "platform not supported" (7/23/2008 1:59:29 PM)

Okay, this is always so confusing to me...
So Post SMS 2003 SP3  hotfixes are:
941214 - hotfix rollup package
953027 - adds specific platorms to advertisement distribution
and thats it?

mrigney633 -> RE: XP SP3, SMS says "platform not supported" (7/25/2008 1:40:49 PM)

JEnglish,

That is my understanding from everyone's advice.I intend to apply the hotfixes this weekend.
