I'm trying to get my brand new SCCM server to work with PXE imaging of new Pc's, but have hit a wall. The SCCM splash screen comes up, and then after a while the pc just reboots, having done nothing. Is there a good step by step guide somewhere on how to get this to work? Do you need anything else installed on the server besides SCCM such as the MDT 2008?  I've checked that the PXE certificate is Ok (it wasn't at first). I've created a task sequence with a Vista image that I'm trying to access.

Enable the Command Prompt support in your boot image and then Press F8 after you boot to it.  This will open a cmd window durign the process and prevent the machine from rebooting to allow you to look at the client logs to further investigate.

Seems to be one of the common issues is not having your Network Access account setup, then when it trys to access files, you get an error and it reboots.

Can you image with media ok?

No you do not need MDT.

Enabling the command prompt support (as suggested by William) should always be done so that you can dig through the log files.  The reason I see the most for the quick reboot is that the image package is not available on a local DP.  Digging throught the log files will point this out immediately.

Thanks for the replies, I tested a bit more and after having installed MDT2008 according to a guide (before reading your replies of course), ran the configmgr integration and the pxe filter, now instead I wont get into the sccm sequence anymore. I get a message saying that WDSNBP was downloaded, and that the request needs to be approved by the WDS admin. What's wrong this time? Installing the MDT2008 pxe filter was supposed to make me NOT have to approve computers to be installed. And where am I supposed to approve the request? I have imported the pc I'm trying to image by entering its MAC address so it should be allowed to connect to the server.

Couple of things to check..

1.  Cycle the WDS Service on the server (Many times this will fix you right up)
2.  Make sure you have a task sequence advertised to the collection you specified in the PXE Filter

Ok, so now I get as far as when I pxe boot, the MAC of the new Pc gets added to the collection "New computers", as it should. It doesn't install anything though, instead I get told:
PXE-T01: File not found
PXE-E3B: TFTP Error - File Not Found
 
I supposed this means there is something wrong with my bootimage, but what? I've read that this WDS+SCCM thing is far from easy to configure, and that you have to install it in EXACTLY in the correct order and basically hope for luck in order to get it to work. Is there any shortcut to make this work? I've reinstalled and rebooted the server several times and get different results every time.

Do you have both the x86 and the x64 boot images assinged to you Standard DP as well as your PXE DP?

Yes, in fact I have a couple task sequences advertised to it, maybe that is the problem?

Nah, you can have have more than one advertised (Side note that if you make one of them a mandatory advert then the others get ignored and the mandatory one is autoselected).

Hmm...
Have you cycled the WDS service or rebooted the server recently?

If you're running out of ideas, I would try uninstalling your PXE point in sccm, delete your distribution points, uninstall then reinstall pxefilter if you use it, cycle wds service, install PXE Point, and re-create and update your distribution points.

My PXE booting went all haywire after upgrading to sp1, nothing made it work until I re-did everything.
I don't think it matters to have the boot images deployed to your standard DP's, i've only ever published to my pxe. I suppose it doesn't hurt, besides the extra space.

I've managed to get it to work, don't know what it was, maybe the 100th restart of the wds service or the tenth reinstall of everything? Thanks all for your tips though!
