tommy_a_d -> Packaging SQL + Visual studio tools (6/19/2008 9:30:14 AM)

Hello,

I am trying to package Visual Studio 2003 - 2008....I have gone through the customization creation files and what not, but when I try to launch the setup.exe /unattendfile filename.ini on 2003 and 2005 it runs for about 30 seconds then logs an event saying the installation completed successfully. But it obviously doesnt install anything...the same happens with the MSDN library.

Does anyone have experiance in working with this? When I run the 2008 installer it says the unattend file is invalid. Does the pathing work right when you package it with SCCM? It looked to me that in the custom.ini file that is created it has references to the original install path.

I haven't found any documentation for deploying SQL Server Management Studio & associated tools, I would like to packagae and deploy that all as well!

Have you discovered appdeploy.com yet?  Here's what they have to say about SQL Server stuff.  Here's a version of Visual Studio.  Visual Studio 2005 was a big pain to setup.  I've got 8 things chained up in ConfigMgr programs to get that thing to install.  And yes, the last thing just "launches" the install, and sends back an immediate success code--even though it's still installing the application for another 15-30 minutes.  I never did find a solution to that issue; I just dealt with it as a tech note to the local techs to be aware of that behavior.
