biscuitgod -> MDT Database Problems (6/23/2008 3:54:42 PM)

Alright - I'm pretty new at this, so please bare with me...

I've got MDT 2008 all setup, images created, and everything works fine.  I want to take this to the next level here, and create some database entry to further automate my imaging process.  The first thing i'd like to do is to setup my Make and Model database for my 3 different laptop models we use.  I'd basically like have it detect my model, then based on that choose the corresponding BuildID, driver group, etc for that model.  I'd then like to take it further yet, and use the Computer database to query either the MAC or SN and set the applications to be installed, computer name, etc with that.

From what i read everywhere, this isn't an issue to do, and i think i have it setup correctly (only doing the Make and Model part now), but it's not querying that database.

I have attached my CustomSettings.ini file as well as a jpg of my database setup.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Steps I have taken:
made sure my username, was setup in SQL Server for that database
made sure Make and Model were set correctly according to the BDD Log file that ZTIGather found.

Not sure what log to look at, but can't find anything that references my database anywhere?

I figured out one issue i think i had...

under SQLShare= portion, i had 'SQLShare=\\server\share'

I changed it to 'SQLShare=share'

Still not working though.  I read the following article...http://209.34.241.68/benhunter/archive/2007/07/10/bdd-2007-troubleshooting-database-issues.aspx

It seems to work when running the debug on the client.. just not when i'm imaging...

Have you enabled "Named Pipes" in the SQL Connections ?

Yes.. Named Pipes are enabled

UPDATE:
I've been testing out the debug option loacated: http://209.34.241.68/benhunter/archive/2007/07/10/bdd-2007-troubleshooting-database-issues.aspx.  I am on a freshly imaged laptop, logged in as the local admin and here's what i found:

If I MANUALLY connect to my SQL server (Start|Run, \\sqlserver, enter username and password), everything works fine, and the script connects the way it should.

If I login as the user on the domain, the script works.

I was told this is all normal since the debugging works with the current account logged in, which is why this should work during the deployment process using the UserID variable in the bootstrap.ini file.  To get around this when debugging, you should use DBID= and DBPWD= in the Database portions of the customsettings.ini file

If I put in the username and pwd using the DBID and DBPWD, it still fails to connect...

Very strange i think.  Not sure how this can possibly FAIL to connect given i used the same UN and PWD in two completely different scenerios above and it seemed to work just fine.  Whatever is causing this to fail is definitely having the same effect during deployment, and thus all my issues.  I'm about ready to install SQL locally on the MDT server, and see if that fixes the issue.

Any ideas anyone??
Thanks in advance!

i'd say clear out yuor entire customsettings.ini of all the database sections, and go to the workbench -> right click your dp -> configure database, and go frmo there. it should fix everything for you.
