scarneol -> 50 Character Limit for Package Name (6/25/2008 2:40:11 PM)

Can anyone explain to me why there is a 50 Character Limit for the Package Name in the Admin Console when the SQL table for the package name (dbo.SMSPackages) has a length of 100 for the "Name" column? {  Name (varchar(100), null) }

Is there a way to increase the size of this field in the MMC so it matches the database length?

That's because the package name is really the Publisher + Name + Version + Language all strung together.  If they all let you type in 100 characters, the overall name would be 400 characters.  If you need more space, maybe you could just put some stuff in those other fields :)

John,
I think you are referring to the package Display name which combines the Manufacturer + Name + Version + Language to create a package name that is strictly used within the Admin Console. That display name is currently limited to 146 characters because of the individual limits within the MMC for the Manufacturer=32char + Name=50char + Version=32char + Language=32char for a grand total of 146 characters. The database on the other hand has limits of Manufacturer=64char + Name=100char + Version=64char + Language=64char. I've actually gone into the database table and changed the individual names to their length limits and the Admin Console will actually show the entire 292 characters for the package Display name so it is possible. I just want to know if anyone knows how to hack the MCC/WMI to take advantage of the actual lengths that are defined in the db?
