nwilliams587 -> Changing location of stored packages (7/1/2008 4:32:07 PM)

I want to change the location of stored packages from the D: drive to the E: drive.

Is it as simple as changing the configuration in >Site Settings>Component Configuration>Software Distribution> and changing the location there from d: to e: and then copying the d:\smspkg folder to e:?

Are you talking about SMSPKG folder or SMSPKGx$ filder?

In case of SMSPKGX$ I'm afraid not - if I remember well you have to redistribute all your packages, as the path is embedded into the database.

Changing the drive letter in your SMS console is indeed a requirement to make sure packages are always stored on the E drive.

To avoid that SMS will store SMSPKGx$ folders on  other drives you need to create NO_SMS_ON_DRIVE.SMS
on the drive where you don't want to get SMSPKGx$ folders.

I do mean the SMSPKG folder and not the SMSPKGDX$ folder.  After changing the drive configuration to go to e:\ do I copy the d:\smspkg folder to e:\?

Thanks for the reply

I suggest making a share, then creating a new share on whatever server you want, then create a new server share through the sccm console and make it just a distribution point. The publish all your packages to that distribution point, that way you know exactly where it's all being stored.  I asked a similar question a while ago, and that has worked pretty well for me.

I am not referring to the distribution point. I am referring to the smspkg folder that holds the compressed package files that get sent to child sites. The folder that holds the *.pkg files. Just need to know if I can just copy them over to e:\smspkg from d:\smspkg once I have configured it in the console for e:\
