I did this for 2 server shares in the Central site, because I couldn't think how else to get all the packages off the server shares any other way at any level of speed(as opposed to me asking the best way to do it here or anywhere else, grrr), as I didn't want to go through every package and remove the relevant server shares from each one, which would take around a day. I have since read that the way to do it properly is to remove the the various sites roles (so a DP, and a Site System for a server share), then delete the server share. What are the steps I should take for my current situation so the relevant server shares are gone fully? One part I see so far is on all the packages they were on, they are still there, marked with with a type of "unknown" instead of not being there. My environment is: All servers running Win Server 2003 with SP2 Broken Server Shares running on Server 2003 All servers on SCCM SP1 Running in mixed mode still (only a few machines I haven't looked at yet that have not gone to the new client) Most clients are XP SP2, some are Server 2003 with SP2, and one is Server 2000 with SP4. Any help/comments would be way more then awesome. Chris

Did you try removing the site as a DP, re-adding the site role, adding package, then decommissioning it properly?

Nope, I wanted to stop and wait for advice before going any further. When you say "removing the site as a DP"... are you refering to manually going through each package and taking out the deleted DP's? I wish SCCM had the ability to control what is on a DP more then just the "copy packages" feature.... In 1E's SMS Commander it was great, you could just be looking at each DP individually, unselecting lots of packages at a time (all of them just by selecting "unselect all") to remove them all from one DP... But they haven't done a version that connects to an SCCM database... :-(

I may have mis-understood your situation so let me see if I can clarify. When you refer to the server share, you mean the distribution share (like \\SERVER\SMSPKGC$) ? So then instead of removing the server as a DP for all of your packages, you deleted the DP role for that server. And now the problem is that the distribution share on that server is still present, plus you have error messages in the SCCM console. Did I understand that correctly?

In Site systems, I create a new "Server share" instead of "Server". This is for putting a DP wherever I like. So it's not \\SERVER\SMSPKGC$, it's \\SERVER\WHATEVERILIKE$. I had deleted that Server share from site systems, instead of doing what one is supposed to do, to which I am now at a loss as to how to do it. So, here's what I have done since that mistake: - Added back in the 2 Server shares with identical names as the ones I deleted. After a short time period (10 minutes or so I think) the packages that had either of those Server share in the Distribution point list, changed from "Unknown" type, to "Server share". So I thought "hey great" and then deleted just the DP roll off one of the Server shares(instead of my initial mistake of just deleting the server share as a whole....), which leaves just the site system roll. Unfortunately when I looked at a package that has that server share in it, then it had not disappeared. It has changed to "unknown" type again, though I have only let it go for around 2 hours. Is this not the way to delete a Server share after all? I had read this was the way to do it (can't remember site, I didn't make a favorite). So now, I'm at a bit of a loss as to how to proceed. I would say I could just add the Server share back in, then go through and delete the entries from each package that contain those two Server Shares in the DP list, but with my initial mistake, I don't know if there's going to be a bunch of junk left in the SMS database or somewhere (Besides the actual package files under the share on the Server share, since those I could simply wipe if need be)....
