wnimmo -> Software Metering not pulling data for MS-DOS names (9/17/2008 12:54:15 PM)

Guys -

Just discovered an issue where SMS 2003 software metering does not pull back application usage. We have an application called MindJet MindManager Pro , so I enabled metering on mindmanager.exe.

Two weeks went by and I pulled up the usage reports.. only I had confirmed users that were not showing up in my reports.

I verified that the executabled I specified was being used... and that when I double clicked the app or shortcut the metering log recorded the usage.

SO I found out the problem is that when the application is called from Lotus Notes (ie. double clicking a .mmap document in an email) the OS is calling the ms-dos name for the applications - mindma~1.exe.

So I have added this as an additional file to meter, but is there a better way to ensure this data will be included for all metered applications in the future?

No, that's correct.  The next time, you could watch a client's local mtrmgr.log file, and see what SMS thinks that .exe is called.

Shouldn't the 'original file name' catch all have caught this though?  (Unless of course MindJet doesnt populate the file header information )
