jwieda -> Patching Problems (9/22/2008 2:16:59 PM)

Good Afternoon,

I recently followed Kevin Holman’s Blog What hotfixes should I apply? and thought that I had applied my patches successfully.
http://blogs.technet.com/kevinholman/archive/2008/09/12/what-hotfixes-should-i-apply.aspx#comments

I then wanted to see A report to show all agents missing a specific hotfix
http://blogs.technet.com/kevinholman/archive/2008/06/27/a-report-to-show-all-agents-missing-a-specific-hotfix.aspx

And it appears that I only patched about 25% of my servers.

Ian Blyth experienced the same thing: Patching Problems Part 1
http://ianblythmanagement.wordpress.com/2008/09/19/waste-of-an-advert/#comment-3467

Ian mentions the following resolution he got from Kevin Holman:
“putting agents in pending is just flipping a bit in the database and putting them in the pending actions table”

Has anyone here experienced this while patching SCOM 2007 SP1? If so, would you be able to assist me in understanding just how to “flip a bit… and put them in a pending actions table”?

Or point me in the right direction?

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
John

Hi Jweieda,

As Ian mentions on his blog, putting an agent into pending management is the same as doing a repair so just repair the agents....  The other thing to make a note of is to remove all the old MSPs from the AgentManagement directory on the management servers before performing the repair.

I would avoid touching the database unless you are confident in what you are doing.

Hope that helps.
