ChrisR -> Package distribution on just a couple of my secondary sites (9/23/2008 6:54:19 AM)

Having a weird problem today that I picked upon yesterday.

I'm sending a package to 6 secondary sites.  The files get installed to the package share on each server, yet only 4 of the 6 show as having the package installed.

The other 2 are stuck on the good old "Install Pending" state, even though I can see the files and package directory have been created.

I've been digging through all the logs but still not 100% sure on what I'm actually looking for.

When I checked the schedule inbox on the 2 servers I've got problems with I can see lots of *.JOB files in there with lovely red crosses on them so guessing this might have something to do with things?

Can anyone point me as to where I should be looking first?

Sod's law, I post this and I see one of the problem secondaries has finally updated...

I did clear out the schedule *.JOB files and also stuff in the tosend folder, and restarted the SMS services on the machine so maybe it's just catching up after that.

Still got 1 machine that's not happy, will try the same and see if it springs back to life.

Still nto sure if things are happy.  what would people recommend I look at first, checking things like distmgr.log on each of the servers doesn't show up any errors :/

Definitely still broken, can't work out from the logs where the problem is though :/

Check out despool.log on the suspect server. I've had files refuse to despool before. Alternately just remove the offending package from the server, wait for "simmering time", and re-push.

It's weird, it all looked like it was working last week, I go off sick for a day, come back and it all doesn't work lol.  Only thing that happened were some MS updates got applied over the weekend, but this happened to all the servers so wouldn't explain why some servers are ok and some aren't.  Aw well will remove the packages I'm having problems with from the servers that are giving me grief and see if it all magically works tomorrow :)

Weirdly I've also had some machines at my central site taking ages to deploy packages, keep getting stuck on waiting for content.   But not all machines :/

I was having the same problem. Microsoft had me apply hotfix 93645 and reset the source count to zero within the database. No more problems.

What do the .JOB files sat in the schedule inbox do/mean?  Is there a way to see what they are and what they are doing?

One site is all sorted now, there was a dodgy setting on the dist point that someone else had set that was causing it tonot work properly.

However I still have one site that's playing up.

The package gets sent there ok, the only thing that's not working is the package isn't showing as installed on the console.  I can go into the DB table and manually update it to be installed, but don't want to do this for every package!

Wiped out SMS on the secondary I was having problems with and reinstalled, all ok now :)
