re: option to allow user to run the program independently of assignments (option in schedule tab) -
I am looking at this option so it can be added to the Run Advertised Programs applet in control panel.  If I set this up to run with the admin account (assuming I would also want to check the "user participation" option below that, so the user can interact), would I want to set up a time to run since the option to run it independently is set? Or would I just leave that blank and advertise it for no earlier than I would want the user to choose to install it.  I haven't gone this route before, so I am asking, and the sources I checked didn't go into this much detail.  Also, dumb question, but is 2003 like sms 2 where if you don't suppress the notification of the advertisement, you can run it right from that little notification that comes up in the system tray or it points you to it or whatever?  THansk.

If you want that particular advertisement to only ever be an optional install, you would not need to schedule a mandatory start time.  When you choose not to set a mandatory start time, by default the advertisement must be available in Run Advertised Programs; that option is greyed out because at that time it's pointless.  If you do add a mandatory start time, or recurring install time, then you can optionally check that box on.  As for advertisement start time, yes; you could prestage the advertisement so that your clients are aware of the advert, but it won't be visible to them until the ad start time.  I've done that for past projects when back end work was done over a weekend; but we didn't want the workstation client piece to be installed until Monday (as an example).

Regarding the popup--as far as I know, that behavior hasn't changed.
