SaiTech -> Reset permission on Windows XP (9/25/2008 10:12:40 AM)

Hi all SMS Pro,

I have found that some of or Windows XP machine have modified local system permission, so I cant use the local system account on some box to install an application. So I have to use an account that is admin on the box.

Well I have found that the secedit can reset the permission on an XP box.
ex. secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\repair\secsetup.inf /db secsetup.sdb /verbose

So my question is can I send out this secedit command with SMS and run in the background even if an user is working on the box? Or do i need when no one is logged on with reboot?

No need to send if someone is logged off.  I've kept these handy and use them often:

for windows 2003
secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\inf\defltsv.inf /db defltsv.sdb /verbose

for vista (and 2008)
secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\inf\defltbase.inf /db defltbase.sdb /verbose

for windows xp
secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\repair\secsetup.inf /db secsetup.sdb /verbose
