pow230 -> SMS SP3 Upgrade (10/1/2008 10:54:50 AM)

Hi,

I'm an administrator in an SMS enviroment. We have 6 primary servers with 140 secondaries. One of my recent tasks included upgrading the servers (primary & secondary) to SP3. All of the primaries were successful and about 130 of the secondaries. Around 10 secondaries are still in progress and have been for a few days now. I updated from the admin console using the "Upgrade Site" task but the egg-timer icon is still on the server and no properties can be accessed. There appears to be no impact to any of the services but it won't upgrade. The smssetup.log file on each of the secondaries has not been modified which suggests that the upgrade request has not reached it. Has anyone seen this before? Can anyone give me troubleshooting tips?

Kind regards,
KP.

I'd say just upgrade them manually via the server.

Thanks Swipre. I could do that but and at least then they'd be upgraded but would it stop the process in-progress from the primary which is displaying the egg-timer on the non-upgrading secondaries.

I'm not sure about that. I guess it wouldn't do any harm to do one and try it.

if the smssetup.log hasnt been modified would suggest manuall install too, is there any setup process running on the primary sites which are showing as egg timer?

If you open another sms console, does it also show the egg timer or just the 1 console you initiated the upgrade from?

Guys, thanks for your replies. I did a manual install which worked.
BTW, there was a side effect to installing SMS SP3 whereby the primary console showed errors in the MP component on the secondary server. Had to re-install MP and IIS to clear these errors. Thanks again.
