jjames709 -> Upgrade SMS2k3 Secondary site to SCCM (10/2/2008 2:27:34 PM)

Hello all,
I have several secondary sms2003 sites to upgrade to SCCM
I have already upgraded all my primary sites from SMS2003 sites to SCCM 2007...no problems

has anyone upgraded an sms secondary site to sccm? Can anyone confirm what are the steps involved?

TIA
Jada

Those were the easy ones.  Well, I didn't have an legacy clients.  Do you have any legacy clients?  Maybe you'd have more to worry about then.  I only had about 9; and I'm a control freak, so I had replicated the source files locally to the box (just as a package, so it went to smspkgX$\somefolder); and ran the upgrade via an RDP connection.  Those happened to be proxy MPs, so I just had to watch the mpsetup.log file, and I did an update DPs of my super-small test package post-upgrade to test the dp stuff.

I suppose I should have asked... they're going to belong to the same primary site, right?  You're not moving them to another one (side-by-side)?  If so, then there are more steps involved, but I've done that before too.  My best time was 2.5hrs of time, and overnight to let the packages sync up after doing preloadpkgonsite.

No legacy clients involved...also it takes too long to copy the installation files to serveral 2nd'y sites in different cities

However, in the SCCM Console, under SCCM Manager\site management\central site...I see there's an option to upgrade all 2nd'y sites at once...
I'm thinking of doing the upgrade from there, have you, or anyone else, tried this method?

thx

I haven't; but I know other people have successfully.  Remember the server will still have to ship the install bits down to those servers across the WAN.  It's one of the reasons I liked to ship it as a Package -- I could control when to send it, and then I knew it was local.  Remember, I'm a control freak about that stuff.

I upgraded secondary sites in UK, China & Houston from the console. It worked a treat! I only had one minor snag - China took more than a day, and finally required reboot to complete. BUT. Everything works fine now.
