Hi All,

I know there is an option to enforce advertisement start time for the packages created using the Distribute Software Update Wizard. But I can't find this option for other packages? Does this mean the advertisement is always enforced for other packages?

Thanks,

Ken

In SMS 2003, you can make something available or make it mandatory.  Open the ad and set a mandatory time and it will launch at that time.  Available just means the user will see it in add remove or run advertised programs.

Thanks for your reply. But I am looking for an option that will enforce the advertisement to run only at a specific time. I don't want the computers coming online after the scheduled time and start the installation program after the planned time.

Out of the box for 2003, all you can do is set an expiration time to prevent this.  If you search this forum, you'll find some work-around wrappers, but for an out of the box, fully supported scenario, upgrading to SCCM and using maintenance windows might be what you're looking for.

Ken-

as far as I know the advertisement "window" you are talking about is only avliable through the DSUW. We use it because we have set times that we can patch servers. I've never seen that option for a normal advertisement. I think you can use the DSUW to distribute normal software .. you will just edit the package and advertisement after the wizard creates it. It will at least put in the syntax for you for the service window.

Thanks all for your replies. Even I think we don't have such option for packages other than packages created using DSUW. So I cannot do anything other than just to live with out it :-)
