iburnell -> Question on RIS and OSD (10/7/2008 11:48:50 AM)

Having to put away my SCCM hat and go back to OSD/SMS 2003 days for a client. They are using RIS to stage images using WinPE 1.5 from SMS 2003. Images work fine apart from Dell Optiplex 755. The client says that the Image Installation CD works fine for this model i.e. he has captured and deployed via CD no problem, but when he stages on RIS gets error message about network drivers. I'm not an expert on RIS but reading the OSD FP notes if I read it correctly you generate the Image Installation CD and add in any specific network drivers and then COPY the directory structure from the CD onto a subfolder of the RIS server - is that correct ?? That being the case provided the correct drivers are in the image installation CD for the card - which appear to go into the i386\system32 directory then I would assume that the same structure goes under the RIS sub-folder i.e. i386\system32 - therefore there's no reason why if the winpe boot from CD can get nic card to serve an IP address and connect to network share why RIS wouldn't have the same drivers - sound right ?? I did see an article on Dell 755 http://www.myitforum.com/forums/m_172363/mpage_1/key_dell%252C755/tm.htm#172363 and wonder if that could be the issue
