Hi,

We are looking at deploying the SMSWakeup Agent 5.5 to upgrade our 5.0.3 Agents.  Can this be done while our servers/console are still on 5.0.3?

Edit:
To clarify, as we are in a Multi-Agent topology, will it still be able to be wake up other 5.0.3 agents?
Will it report Client Health properly?
Will it report to the Agility Framework?
or do we have to upgrade the back end first before we do the clients?

Sorry about all the questions as we only have SMSWakeUp 5.0.3 installed on a small number of computers (350 or so) and we don't have much experience with it... ie we have never used a wakeup enabled advertisement etc.

Personally, I would strongly recommend you upgrade the server side first (actually I would remove/reinstall vs upgrade)... process is extremely clean with no reboots required...

you will also want to remove and reinstall latest WakeUp Productpack on your AFR server (I assume you are using this - it is a freebie and provides huge benefits around increased reporting details, computer health and on and on...

Once the back end is updated with latest version, THEN I would look at rolling out the v5.5 agent... working backwards in this client-server space could be "interesting" at best. I personally have not tried to mix&match in that fashion

Thanks for the info Ed - it's very much appreciated.

I don't think the WakeUp Product pack is currently installed.  I think we only have the WakeUp Server and AFR Server installed (both sit on the same box as the SMS 2003 Server).

So upgrade process order would be to:

Uninstall AFR Server
Uninstall SMSWakeup Server 5.0.3
Install WakeUp Server 5.5
Install AFR Server 2.3
Install WakeUp Product Pack 5.5
Upgrade 5.0.3 Agents/Deploy 5.5 Agents

We had a 3rd party implement SMSWakeUp 5.0 and there wasn't much documnetation on the installation.

Install AFR before WakeUp Server - assuming that you are intending to enable reporting mode and create Client Health Collections during WakeUp server install.

Oh yeah, you're right thanks - I just re-read the 1E WakeUp Reporting Guide.  It also states the 1E Product Pack process as a "Requirement".  So do I have to install that before the AFR install or does it just have to be installed on the same server as the AFR?

I should have been more specific - to clarify - Agility Framework.msi installs the framework [;)] (SQL IIS etc). The individual Product Pack MSIs then install the product specific SQL tables, jobs, web pages etc.

So; Yes, you need to install Agility Framework, then the WakeUp Product Pack both on the AFR server and then WakeUp itself on the Primary SMS/SCCM server.

These may may of course all be the same box depending on scale.

Righto.  I think I've got the order now and they are all being installed on the same box as the SMS Server:

Uninstall AFR Server
Uninstall SMSWakeup Server 5.0.3

Install AFR Server 2.3
Install WakeUp Product Pack 5.5
Install WakeUp Server 5.5 
Upgrade 5.0.3 Agents/Deploy 5.5 Agents
