cldpeak -> No user defined window Software Updates (10/10/2008 2:24:20 PM)

I have a software update package that deploys .NET 2.0 & .NET 3.0

Our org resists enforced reboots - so I have a past, non-recuring maintenance window on the collection and suppress reboots enabled in the package.

When the user received notification that a Software Update was available, the "Schedule Installation" button to allow the user to "Install required updates on a shedule" did not work until I added a deadline to the package far into the future.

This seemed to work as the .NET 2.0 Update launched and installed at the user defined schedule.

However, in the same packate .NET 3.0 won't install.  I've gone through a couple of user schedules and at the user defined time, Updates does launch but here is what I see in UpdatesDeployment.log:
- Message received: '<?xml version='1.0' ?><SoftwareUpdatesMessage MessageType='EnforceMandatoryUpdates'/>'
- No current service window available to run updates assignment with time required = 1800
- No current or future service window available to run updates assignment with time required = 1800
- No service window defined to accommodate at least one update in the assignment
- No service window available on user defined schedule. Installation will be retried on next schedule.

Anybody run into this?

Thanks!

Ray

Looks like it's the use of a maintenance window... if I have any kind of maintenance window in place, it overrides any user set installation schedule on the configmgr client - even though the pop up ballon will list the updates will apply on the next user defined scheduled interval.

Has anyone had similar behavior?  If so, is there a workaround?

What is the Maximum allowed run time set to on your program?  The error message indicates that it is 1800 minutes, so if your maintenance window is less than that, it will never run.  I'm new at this, so let me know if I'm off the mark, or missed something obvious.

Worth checking out - the maintenance windows was 2 1/2 hours.  It seems that if the user picks a schedule that is not within a maintenance window, the update is not allowed to run.  Would like to see better notification for the user - it's like two camps, you can either notify user / allow user scheduling - or - use maintenance windows but you can't have both.
