Anyone have suggestions on creating a baseline package for new builds on servers? I need to include all kbs that are included in all MSRCs ex. MS08-052 ect. Doing this manually would take a week. I would have to go back and document all the thousands of KBs and then hand pick them in the lame DSUW ... BLAH

One way would be to just manage servers with WSUS and make the policy there since it's faster.

Another way could be to bring up a new server, scan it, shoot up the HINV off of it, then run DSUW to sort by requested while filtering on the OS.

In both cases, slipstreaming the latest SP into the image should cut down on # of patches needed as well as never installing Office products on a server.

Thanks for the response. Option 1 isnt an option becuse thats what we are trying to get away from because of the exact maintenace windows we have for patching in our dev, qual, and production environments.

Option 2 sounds good. We build new servers 1 of 3 ways. We use templates for all our VMs and those templates are kept patched so those arent a problem (75% of new builds). The rest are physical servers that are built from the ground up at the moment because of licenseing issues with our deployment process. I know it sucks and we are working on reolving this but in the meantime i need this baseline package .... im going to put it off as long as possible.

Anyways, i will rate .. thanks for your response.
