all,

i've inherited an sms 2003 site and was looking in the ccm.log today and noticed a ton of retry requests occuring. i've identified the account configured for the client push does not have sufficient privileges.

when i look inside the ccr.box dir there are 1.7 million files equaling 6.6gb. what i want to know is how has this occured, and how can i clean it up? can i simply delete them?

i believe this has escaped detection as the sms client is installed as part of a ghost image. i'm thinking that perhaps the network discovery has detected all these machines over a period of years, and tried to install the client using the unprivileged account?

what i want to do is clear the ccr.box, disable auto client push, and disable network discovery..does this sound appropriate?

thanks all.

Yes, just delete them.  Do that 1st then come back and read the rest of this post, but for the love of God delete them!

OK, you probably have client push enabled by default.  So you can chose to keep that if you've fixed your client push acct.

I recommend you don't waste your time with client push or network discovery.  That instead, you use a client health script instead.

All my reasons are in the article.

At my old job, we never used client push.  We also never used Network discovery.  I was 99.9% sure no one ever joined a non-internal image, but the startup script was excellent for doing client remediation without my needing to know about it.

Unsolicited advice:  Do you have something of a budget?  If you do, you could also consider having on only heartbeat discovery; and check out systemcentertools.com for EnhancedSystemDiscovery (ESD) for your discover-computers-in-ad needs.
