can I specify multiple paths separated by ";" or something for ResourceRoot?  right now I'm using \\%SMSDP%\smspkgd$\XXXXX and I have servers that don't have a D:\ and use \\%SMSDP%\smspkgc$\XXXXX

I could just share out the XXXXX dir as well and just use ResourceRoot=\\%SMSDP%\XXXXX ?

I don't know that you can specify multiple resource roots on the same line, but if you have multiple Roles assigned you could probably have a resource root for each one (might first make sure you really do need multiple resource roots). But if it was me I'd just try sharing the folder with the same name and using that share name instead...
