As long as you don't change the name of the server, it's IP address is not relevant. Changing the boundary is just as if you weren't going to move it at all; you're just changing the boundary settings to match whatever your plan is. Just be sure not to have overlapping boundaries. For example I suspect 1 of those Secondaries has the ADSite boundary now, which you want to switch to the primary? It's up to you & your network infrastructure; but you could even have no boundaries set on the Primary after you move it. Otherwise, remove the ADsite from the Secondary, and add it to the Primary. Hmm... thinking about this... I think I would remove the boundary while the Primary is still in Atlanta, (and add it elsewhere if you need to); and let that cook for an hour or so to let everything sync up. Then change the nic to DHCP or a static IP you are 99% sure will work once it's in CA; then shut it down. Try really hard to get that hardware up to ca really quickly; the longer it's offline, the longer it'll take to catch up on all the records the Secondaries want to send to it. And if I think if it's offline too long, there could be issues. I've never had a primary offline for more than 2 days (that was a "fun" 2 days), so I don't have personal experience with how long is too long. Or you "could" simply stop SMS services on the Secondaries while the Primary is en route, then start them up after the Primary is in place--although I've never done that for more than a few hours; and that was under SMS 2.0 when I was doing a hardware lease return.
