Is there a file/way to report on that will show the machines usage as a machine? As in, how many times its been turned on and/or used?

We are trying to put data to some hardware purchases and having a report that says "these machines are hardly used" will save us a bit of $$$ come budget time!

Thanks!

D.J.

If you are using SMS2003 SP3, and have the pre-requisites for Console Usage data gathering in place (a GPO), and you have the Asset Intelligence inventory enabled, then you could use the Console Usage data to see which computers rarely have a logged in user.

Prerequisites for AI.  Essentially, in order for the SMS 2003 SP3 client (or the ConfigMgr client, or SLAT as well if you use that) to be able to gather console use data, a GPO need to be in place to tell the clients they need to record logon data in the local eventvwr Security log; so that the tools can grab data from that source, and report it to SMS/ConfigMgr.

In that link, scroll all the way to the bottom for "How to enable success logon event logging".  I know the link is for ConfigMgr, but it's the same pre-req needed for sms03 & SLAT.
