Sure... here's what I tried: 1) Initial installation from sms\bin\i386\setup.exe 2) XP Workstation, so looked at firewall issues: Enable File & Print Sharing 3) XP firewall: Exclusion of unsecapp.exe on TCP 135 4) XP firewall: Exclusion of TCP ports 2701 (SMS general contact, reboot, ping), 2702 (Remote Control), 2703 (Chat), and 2704 (File Transfer) 5) Review cumulative Group Policy Settings for restriction problems 6) DCOM control to allow anonymous remote control setting 7) Download fresh SMS 2003 SP3 files to create install disk; install from disk 8) After confirmed install on my desktop, tested remotely with our helpdesk staff by calling over, RCing their PC, walking them through a network install of the Admin Console from the fresh install files, and confirming that they can not only access the Admin Console but that they too could use the Remote Tools functionality. The result; I still get the early error: cannot read from the 1.x style site control file \site.srv\sitecfg.box\sitectrl.ct0 failed to retrieve a verifiable SC file And during the install, the only install selection is "SMS Administrator Console" with no a la carte options. But, the install proceeds fine, and is fully functional afterwards. I kicked myself when I realized the install was finally successful, as I had assumed it wasn't fully installing correctly because there were errors in the log and all the options didn't appear in the installation option window. After I finally installed even with these issues I found that it worked fine. I believe the resolution was indeed that the initial installation files in the sms\bin\i386\setup.exe were the source of the problem. The fresh install files work, even with small glitchy errors. If anyone has any ideas on how to resolve these annoying, but not fatal issues, please let me know. Thanks!
