Failed to Run Task Sequence (0x80004005)

I get this in the smsts.log Unable to find System disk for this machine Failed to prepare the system partition for stageing. Unspecified error(Error: 80004005; Source Windows) Failed to stage WinPE Code(0x80004005 I need to mention that i am trying to run the task sequence on a vmware workstation for a build.

Yes, I know this is an old post, I’m trying to clean up older posts that are unanswered. Did you ever figure this out?

I've encountered the same error before. In our case the problem was that WinPE didn't have a native driver for the hard disk so it wasn't able to mount the disk. It was confusing because we could initially boot the system and select the task sequence without a problem, but then the image would fail after rebooting into WinPE. Try loading the driver for the VMWare disk into the Drivers section under OSD. That got us up and running.
