SCCM 2012 installation failing related to SQL Thursday, March 08, 2012 12:10 PM (permalink)
0
I have installed SQL Server 2008 R2, Service Pack 1, and Cumulative Update 4.  I am still having issues that I have no idea where to begin because the error message is useless.

When I get to the "Database Information" page, I enter the name of the server (LAB-SCCM.COntoso.com) where SQL is installed, database name of "CM_CAS" which I assume is created on installation, and SSB port is 4022 (default).

I get this error;

"Configuration Manager sites require a support SQL Server version with required hotfixes for site database operation to succeed.  Before Setup can continue, you must install a support version of SQL server on the specified site database server.  For more information, see "

Thanks in advance

    Did you reboot after the SP1 and CU updates?  BTW CU5 is now out.  And does the CAS machine acct have sysadmin on SQL?  Also, do you really need a CAS?  :-)

    What does the version number of SQL say in SQL Mgmt Studio?

      I'm not really sure yet, that's why it's all in a lab :)  We do have sites all over the US and now have 2 (very small 2-3 person) offices overseas.  My understanding was that you use a CAS to centrally manage multipe primary/secondary sites, and I do think that multiple primaries are a possibility (but I could be wrong, I suppose).

      But any way, if I can't get SCCM installed, it won't be a problem anyway.  I installed SQL R2, SP1, and CU4, rebooted multiple times, etc, to no avail.

        I had this error and it was my OS version. We were using 2008 R2 w/ SP1 when SP1 is not supported.

          I don't have SP1, but it is R2 Datacenter - would that make a diff?

            That should be fine.

            Also on my SQL server I had to change the following. For my SCCM SQL instance, TCPIP I had to turn TCP Dynamic Ports to nothing instead of its default value. From my research you need to do this if you use a cutom named instance instead of the default instance name for sql.

              The goal of CM12 is to flatten your hierarchy, so perhaps those other sites could just become secondary sites.  Perhaps you could get by with just throttled DPs.

              Is SQL on the same box?  If not is 1433 also open?  Is SQL collation set to SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS?

                Hey guys,
                   Just as an update, I completely removed SQL and installed only the necessary components (SP1 and SP1 CU4) and it installed perfectly!

                Thanks!
