I thought I remember reading somewhere that the eidting of the MOF to pull registry keys was going away and replaced by something else. I thought there was even a tranfer program for it. I can't remember where I read this at thought and can't find anything in the console to help, so I come to you for help.

CM12 has a nice GUI to enable\disable what's already registered. But if you want to import a mof from CM07 or you have something new you wish to add, RegKeyToMof is still your best friend. It can offer you a configuration.mof file which unfortunately, hasn't gone away yet (CM07 had both the sms_def.mof as well as the configuration.mof). Anyway, download it and play with it. I'm not sure if this is the latest: http://myitforum.com/cs2/files/folders/proddocs/entry152945.aspx

BTW, HINV can at least browse WMI. Still waiting for the WMI browser that Settings Management (DCM) already has.
