NIC driver not found during imaging Wednesday, August 08, 2012 9:26 AM (permalink)

Hey everyone,

I've got a bunch of HP 6550b laptops here that I'm unable to image. We've already had one issue that I solved (source files for the drivers in the boot image pointed to our decommissioned SCCM 2007 server) but now I'm getting another issue.

I get a machine to boot into WinPE and select the task sequence, but when it restarts it looks like it begins the task sequence, it fails with an error code of 0x80070002.

I've figured out the issue is that the NIC driver isn't being recognized (ipconfig is blank.) The weird thing is, if I do an ipconfig before I select a task sequence, I get an IP like normal.

I've got the right NIC driver in the boot image. Do I actually have to import the driver directly into the boot wim? Or is there another step I'm missing?

Thanks for any help!

Import the driver into ConfigMgr and then add it to your boot image.  2012 is much better in terms of supporting most NIC cards but it won't cover 100% of what's out there.  Should be a pretty straight forward process, good luck!

That's how I've done it. It seems to work fine at first (I get an IP before I select a task sequence) but as soon as the machine reboots to kick off the task sequence itself, I lose the IP.

If I'm able to choose a task sequence, it seems to me that the driver should work throughout the process. Not sure why WinPE would suddenly decide it's not the right driver.

        Figured it out!
Turns out I was overlooking the fact that the boot image I was using on my boot media was different than the one I was using in the task sequence. The TS boot media had a driver pointing at our recently decommissioned SCCM 2007 server. Removed that driver and everything worked!
