Dell XPS 14 with Hybrid Hard Drive - \Boot\BCD\ error 0xc000000f Saturday, September 15, 2012 6:12 PM (permalink)

Hey!
We just got in a shipment of a dozen Dell XPS 14 Ultrabooks with fancy hybrid hard drives (8gb of flash memory sitting in front of a HDD, which should be managed via firmware from what I've been told), but I'm unable to boot into PXE. When I try, I get the dreaded "An error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data."

I've tried injecting all storage and network drivers for this model into the boot images (even threw in the chipset drivers just for giggles, that didn't help either). I've separately imported Dell's available PXE driver cab. No dice. I'm able to boot other models of machine into PXE with no problems, so I can't imagine it's any sort of configuration or permissions error with our system or network, and I'm just kind of assuming it's an issue with drivers... would that even throw this error or would I see a different error if it was drivers?

These machines do not yet exist in SCCM except in the "Unprovisioned Computers" section of OSD. They are not yet on our domain or anything.

Nothing I've been able to find so far has helped. My guess is that it's the hybrid drive throwing the problems, but I can't very well send back the dozen hard drives and ask for SSDs or HDDs instead. Anyone have any experience with this model of laptop, or hybrid drives in general, or any general advice they can give me?

Thanks!
