SCCM 2012 SP2 - Socket Designation fields empty? Wednesday, February 05, 2014 6:57 PM (permalink)

I've been looking at the Resource Explorer, specifically the Processor information, for several physical servers, and I've noticed that the Socket Designation column is blank.
Should this field/column be populated and if so, how do I enable this?
Thanks,
Sven

Since you said 'for several physical servers', my guess is that for other servers, you do see that information?
Then my suggestion is to go to a server you suspect should have something to report, and go look at root\cimv2\win32_processor on that server interactively (using wbemtest, or some other wmi browser) and see if it actually does have something to say.  If it's null, then CM is reporting exactly what is there.  If there is something there to be reported on; then start looking at possibilities; for example, I know there was a hotfix for Server 2003 OS' for the win32_processor class not being able to report on certain attributes.

I opened up root\cimv2\win32_processor on this Windows Server 2003 SP2 server and for SocketDesignation it lists CIM_STRING <null>

I guess that means this information is not getting collected.

What that means is there is nothing to collect.  Null doesn't = zero.  If it were a zero, that would be reported.  But null means... null.

If you think there "should" be something there on that server, then you need to do a bunch of research--bios update needed?  WMI update needed?  an older OS that simply has nothing to say?  or is it simply that the processor that is in that box; "in general" never says anything about socketdesignation?
