Old multi-format flat files on the system Challenge Tuesday, February 28, 2017 9:50 AM (permalink)

Hi Everyone,

I have two files that we need to convert to DDS as they have become hurdle in our Data mirror project which could not handle multi format flat files having field definitions with Data dictionary arrangement of IDDU.
These files are mostly internally defined under RPG and COBOL programs (COBOL program uses copybooks for them as well). Question is if we convert them from K00001, F00001 type Old S/36 flat file to proper DDS format, do we need to change all programs using these files or would they work without changing these programs. If they are to be changed then I would give more details on programs and will ask separate questions on COBOL and RPG chanegs.

Thanks
Farhan

AS long as you do not modify the structure of these table when you externally define these tables than the programs should continue to work without any modification to the them.

Thanks for confirming - Seems like this is what is happening and we have come across no issues whatsoever after conversion to DDS defined with no structure changes.
