is there any other 3rd party addon solutions to SCCm for WOL across a WAN similar to 1E wakeup?. Anybody using any? Is SCCM 2012 going to have WAN WOL wakeup built in? cheers

The WoL story for 2012 is no different than 2007: subnet directed broadcasts or unicast (or OOB if you're a gluten for punishment) and wake-up-timers as introduced in ConfigMgr 2007 R3. Yes, there are other commerical products. In particular, Companion and Green Planet from Adaptiva: http://adaptiva.com/products_companion.html. Peer-to-peer WoL, coordinated with ConfigMgr, power policies, optional and configurable user control/input to power policies, complete reporting integrated into ConfigMgr, instant client actions.

And why wouldn't you want to use 1e Nightwatchman and Wakeup?? I've got it implemented in our environment, and it works great. It also works with SCCM, so it's everything we need. It's actually much better than the WOL functionality that's builtin to SCCM, in my opinion.

Have you ever checked out Surveyor 6 by Verdiem? Granted I am a little partial (being a Verdiem services consultant) but our integration with Microsoft SCCM is elegant, without making any modifications that potentially impact its core infrastructure. I'd be happy to give you a non-sales/technical perspective - but just want to give you awareness of the product through this post.

Survey 6 looks good, cant see much information on the site on how it links into sccm & the features or benefits that can give.

So let me get this straight. You've owned and used our stuff for years you/I go way back). Management took a penny-wise pound-foolish approach and dropped maintenance... and NOW they are entertaining buying an entirely new product?!?! Good luck with THAT! Have you had any serious discussions with your 1E Team to see if there may be some relief oin that Maintenance cost and getting it reinstated???

The SCCM ecosystem has expanded, and now there are many more companies that make very successful SCCM Add-on tools. e.g. Adaptiva, SCCM Expert (now Flexera), and BDNA, to name a few. I'd encourage you to explore all your options before making your decision, and maybe you'll find a vendor with excellent tools and excellent business practices. I can tell you that Adaptiva would never have asked you to back-pay your maintenance in the first place. thanks, Deepak Kumar, Chief Technology Officer, Adaptiva. Seattle, WA - 98033. Also keep in mind where the support staff is located. If they are 4-6 hours east/west, your primary support hours will end early in the morning or start late in the afternoon depending on where they/you are located. They will all promise 24 hour support, but the guys that actually know how to fix things are at the home site in their home time zone. I've already eliminated one potential 3rd party SCUP value-added vendor because of their geographic location, even though they offer a very compelling solution.
