Exporting Group Policy to file Sunday, June 03, 2012 2:25 PM (permalink)

Due to major layoffs here, I've been delegated to support the group policies.  In the last couple of weeks I've heard a lot of complaints of how long it takes the workstations to boot up.  Is there a way I can determine what GPs are running on the workstations?  Can the GP be exported to a readable file so I can compare them to see if something is stepping on each other.

Run the following as an administrator on the machine:
      gpresult /H GPreport.html

Take a look at GPResults or RSOP.msc, using either of these you can export the results to a text file to review.

OK, maybe the JPG won't attach.  Basically, if you run RSOP on a machine with Windows Vista SP1 or later, you should get a dialog before the MSC opens that reads as follows:
"Starting with Microsoft Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1), the Resultant Set of Policies (RSoP) report does not show all Microsoft Group Policy settings.  To see the full set of Microsoft Group Policy settings applied for a computer or user, use the command-line tool gpresult."

Wow, learn something new everyday...  I wonder what you don't see in RSOP.msc???
