What is it?

Wake on LAN is a technology that allows a network professional to remotely power on a computer or to wake it up from sleep mode. By remotely triggering the computer to wake up and perform scheduled maintenance tasks, the technician does not have to physically visit each computer on the network.

Wake-on-LAN Vendors and Products

  • Wake On Lan Task Sequence Extension Beta Download
Another Wake on Lan tool for Configuration Manager? Aren't there enough already? Aren't Wake on Lan Capabilities already in Configuration Manager?

System Center Tools created the SCT WOL extension tool due to multiple customers who want to use WOL capabilities with Configuration Manager, but don't want to spend extra money for a 3rd party product. Our belief is that the out of the box WOL capabilities combined with the extension tool will meet the needs of most customers.

  • 1E - SMSWakeup
Overview The first and the best Wake-On-LAN product. Installed in over 2.5 million seats worldwide SMSWakeUp is proven technology that provides massive return on investment by powering on all PCs which were asleep or shutdown. By automatically turning on computers for software and patch deliveries in synchronisation with Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS), SMSWakeUp increases delivery success to 100%. Cutting the cost of delivery and reducing failure gives SMSWakeUp an ROI of less than three months.

SMSWakeUp has proven scalability, being successfully used at several 200,000+ seat organizations.

Key Features Of Version 5

• Extensive network wake state reporting - accurate reports on the success of SMS deployments using wake ups.
• SMS Client health reports and fixes - SMSWakeUp creates SMS Collections containing problem SMS Client resources, enabling quick and easy maintenance via provided fixes.
• SMS acceleration - using policy refresh and hardware inventory refresh, SMSWakeUp enables your SMS infrastructure to react quicker and be more up to date.
• Enhanced SMSWakeUp Console - Provides greater flexibility and control over SMSWakeUp functionality.
• Last man standing - SMSWakeUp now ensures that at least one machine per subnet is ready to receive and transmit wakeup signals.

Key Benefits

• “Set and forget” configuration - Once SMSWakeUp has been configured according to your SMS hierarchy and system population, no further configuration is required.
• Integrates fully with SMS 2003 and SCCM 2007 - SMSWakeUp integrates seamlessly with the SMS database, using network card data to power on PCs as required by SMS Advertisements.
• Configurable for any type of network - SMSWakeUp can even send remote wakeup requests on networks that do not allow Magic Packet forwarding because directed broadcasts are disabled.
• Enables Software Distribution staging - SMSWakeUp can be used to stage distributions by waking systems in batches. This reduces the load on the network and cuts any immediate impact on the SMS distribution points within the network.

  • SMS Utilities - WakeonLanSMS - WakeonLanSMS is an innovative solution to making sure your software gets deployed at a time that is most convenient for your users. Deploying a large number of security patches, major software upgrades, or a new Operating System during business hours can leave a user without a usable computer for sometimes hours at a time. Ideally you want to do these functions during the middle of the night when the users and you are sound asleep. The problem is that most of your computers are “asleep” as well. WakeonLanSMS will allow you to safely deploy major system upgrades at whatever hour works best for your company.

**No agents to deploy or manage - Just install it once and you are done

**You don't have to enable directed-broadcasts on your routers

**Ability to include/exclude specific advertisements and/or collections

**SMS Console integration that allows you to perform manual wakeups on specific systems, collections, or advertisements
