1. Create Certificate Authority (CA) in Active Directory

  • Prerequisites

Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition (SP1 or SP2 or R2)

Note: Your root CA server needs to be running on Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition. For SCCM, your root CA server cannot be hosted on Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition. SCCM requires the document signing certificate (e.g. provides server authentication from all site servers to all SCCM clients, so that the site servers can be identified as such) be published as a certificate template. This document signing certificate template will be used as a "template" for all subsequent document signing certificates created for all site servers within the site. Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition is not capable of publishing certificate templates for document signing certificates.
