BDD 2007 is a comprehensive guide on how to manage a large deployment project. It is geared for large enterprises that can set up "cross functional feature teams". Not for them, this guide was written for what Mr. Niehaus refers to as an IT Generalist.

If you want a more condensed version I suggest Johan's A Geek's Guide to BDD 2007. I would not have been able to make this guide as easily as I did without using his guide. This is not meant to replace his; it merely intends to provide graphics and break the instructions down a few levels of detail.

That is what this guide is meant to be. A step-by-step guide on installing and configuring the two most popular components of BDD:

1. An automated and repeatable Reference machine build process; and
2. Zero-touch Installation using the SMS OSD FP and the Admin DB

Hopefully as people use this guide they will add the issues they encountered and what they did to fix them.

BDD 2007 supports both lite touch and zero touch deployments.

The core piece to BDD 2007 is the workbench. The workbench replaces most of the HTA apps from BDD 2.5.
In general, to get it all working, you need to:
  • Install the workbench and all supporting files.
  • Import an OS (Vista, XP SP2, or Server 03 SP1)
  • Create a build
  • Create a LAB Deployment point
  • Create your reference image
  • Capture it using the OSD FP Capture CD
